Final Project

Review

You’ve made it through the “Styles in Word: Enhancing Efficiency While Increasing Accessibility” module!

Here’s what we’ve covered:

  • How electronic documents that are only visually formatted create challenges for people with visual processing issues
  • How to recognize and apply semantic mark-up to enhance navigation
  • How to use styles to translate visual formatting into information usable by a screen reader
  • How to discriminate between meaningful and decorative images
  • How to apply appropriate Alt-Text to images

Instructions

Now, it’s time to put your knowledge and skills to use.

For your final project, choose one of the following options:

  • Create a new accessible document (preferably one you need to create as part of your job duties).
  • Remediate an existing document (preferably something used regularly by your department) to make it accessible.

Your document should use what you have learned in this module to:

  • Use styles for Headings and normal text
  • Use bold and italics only for emphasis
  • Use color ONLY if it is attached to a style
  • Use appropriate Alt-Text if images are present

Congratulations! You now have an accessible document, and hopefully you’ve learned some tips and tricks to help you work more efficiently with Word as well!
