Review
You’ve made it through the “Styles in Word: Enhancing Efficiency While Increasing Accessibility” module!
Here’s what we’ve covered:
- How electronic documents that are only visually formatted create challenges for people with visual processing issues
- How to recognize and apply semantic mark-up to enhance navigation
- How to use styles to translate visual formatting into information usable by a screen reader
- How to discriminate between meaningful and decorative images
- How to apply appropriate Alt-Text to images
Instructions
Now, it’s time to put your knowledge and skills to use.
For your final project, choose one of the following options:
- Create a new accessible document (preferably one you need to create as part of your job duties).
- Remediate an existing document (preferably something used regularly by your department) to make it accessible.
Your document should use what you have learned in this module to:
- Use styles for Headings and normal text
- Use bold and italics only for emphasis
- Use color ONLY if it is attached to a style
- Use appropriate Alt-Text if images are present
Congratulations! You now have an accessible document, and hopefully you’ve learned some tips and tricks to help you work more efficiently with Word as well!
