Module 1—Introduction to Accessibility
Before we talk about Styles in Microsoft Word, I’d like to take a moment to explain why accessibility and universal design are important. Understanding and properly applying Styles will both enhance productivity and efficiency, while simultaneously making a document universally accessible. The video below will show you a sample document that was created on Microsoft Word in the same fashion that someone would create a document using a manual typewriter.
This video is close-captioned. Use the “CC” link in the video or find the transcript here. For optimal learning, use either the captions or the audio, but not both simultaneously.

Preview of the Next Module—Document Structure
Styles can enhance document accessibility and useability, as long as they are applied in a logical and consistent manner. The next module will explain how all documents are structured. This structure is the roadmap for applying styles logically.
