Assessment from a Teaching & Learning Standpoint

Research shows that good assessment supports student learning.

Cambridge English has produced a webinar describing a Learning Oriented Approach to Assessment. Watch the webinar (41:53 minutes). The facilitator, Miranda Hamilton, will ask participatory questions over the course of the webinar. Use your preferred writing technology (whether electronic or paper and pen) to respond to her questions throughout the webinar.

After completing the webinar, spend five minutes reflecting on the following questions:

• What is summative assessment?
• How does the Learner Oriented Approach fit into assessment?
• Do you already incorporate any of the assessments described in the webinar?
• Based on what you have learned, how might you better incorporate assessment into your teaching?
