Using Mediaspace to Caption Videos
Captioning of video and audio material is one of the major accessibility requirements. As mentioned in the New Era webinar, UC Berkeley recently removed all of their free educational videos because they were not captioned. Any video or audio material that we create, whether for internal use on D2L Brightspace, for internal use among campus employees, or for public consumption must be captioned to ensure NHCC is complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Mediaspace is a service available to all Minnesota State students an employees. It provides a machine-caption option for video and audio files that is between 70% and 90% accurate. It also has a built-in editor to improve the quality of the machine-generated captions.
The video below demonstrates how to upload files, order machine captions, and edit the captions in Mediaspace. You will need your StarID and password to access Mediaspace.
I encourage you to watch the video in one window while trying Mediaspace for yourself.
